Sun Print Saturday/Ocean!

It's going to be a hot one this Saturday so instead of doing the class at the normal time & location (Engine) we decided to pack up and do it right on the beach at Fortunes Rocks Public beach. Parking is free until 8am so even if you don't have a pass you are all set! If you need help finding where we set up please call Tina 207-590-6654.

Engine & NOC darkroom members qualify for a 10% discount on classes. Enter your email address as the promotional code upon checkout.

Photography is just another word for drawing with light. Chemistry and sunlight were all that was needed for the first photographic images. Today we are removed from the basic science behind the history of photography due to easy access to digital cameras. Come have fun in the sun and create your very own sun prints!

In the early 1800s Nieciphor Niepce created the first photographic image using silver nitrate on paper. Shortly after, William Henry Fox Talbot perfected a more detailed, contrasted and permanent print out of an alternative process known today as the salt print. Come learn the mystifying chemistry of the earliest photographs using salt and egg whites. Local photo-based artist, Savanna Pettengill will lead a weekend long workshop where students will learn how to create the chemistry, sensitize their own paper and make some of the richest and most beautiful brown hue to black toned prints they've ever made. This class is suggested for intermediate to advanced photographers and photo hobbyists only. Students will create as many images as the class allows time for.
